90 Mile Beach

Протяженность 90 мильного пляжа на самом деле 64 мили. Был в этих местах фермер в старые времена. Он перегонял по пляжу коров и перегон занимал три дня. Фермер считал, что корова проходит в день тридцать миль. 3*30=90. Отсюда и название.
Ограничение скорости на пляже 100км/ч, такое же, как и на новозеландских автомагистралях, называемых моторвеями (motorway).

"Your right 90 Mile Beach is a road. Portions of the beach have 100k speed limit. However, when in the vicinity of people, children, birds, sea life and endangered species speed is required to be significantly reduced. I appreciate your blog, but I and several thousand live here and use the beach everyday and are sick of the vehicles on the beach, especially in the residential beach areas. We cannot use the beach safely anymore for fear of being run over. The speed limit in a residential zone of the beach has been changed to 30k. I think your 100k statement sends out the wrong message. You have to drive to the conditions. Furthermore any one who drives at 100k on the beach is an idiot with a death wish."
